Dialpad increases investment in Canada with headcount growth

Cloud communications leader plans to expand Canadian development team to build innovative AI technologies

KITCHENER, Ontario — May 26, 2021 — Dialpad Inc., the industry leader in AI-powered communication and collaboration, today announced plans to expand its employee presence in Canada. Through increased focus on talent acquisition, Dialpad is building a modern, research and development hub in the country to advance the fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR).

“It’s been a year of tremendous growth for Dialpad, including the acquisition of Highfive, securing $126M in Series-E funding and expanding our overall headcount by almost 50%. We are excited to continue this momentum by strengthening our research and development teams based in Ontario and British Columbia,” said Jim Palmer, Vice President of Data Engineering, Dialpad. “We are delighted to have built strong partnerships with key Canadian institutions of higher learning like the University of British Columbia. And we are eager to deepen our engagement in Canada by further accessing the breadth and depth of diverse talent across the country, particularly in the Kitchener-Waterloo area, through the hiring efforts we are announcing today.”

"We are proud to have Dialpad as a partner,” said Milad Maymay, Director, Program Operations and student management, University of British Columbia. “As Dialpad has grown, so has its support of our capstone program. Together, we are able to provide students with real-world work experience on the cutting-edge of AI technology.”

Dialpad already has a strong presence in Canada, with offices in Kitchener-Waterloo and Vancouver, and additional employees across Alberta, Saskatchewan and Quebec. With over 160 full-time employees in the country, more than 20% of Dialpad’s workforce resides in Canada. A majority of these workers were hired after March 2020 as the company saw heightened demand for its cloud-based calling, conferencing and contact center technology due to the increase in flexible working environments during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dialpad aims to maintain its hiring momentum in Canada, with a special focus on AI, NLP and ASR experts, as these roles are critical as Dialpad expands research and development efforts for its proprietary Voice Intelligence (Vi™) technology. Vi delivers real-time business optimization, including call coaching, automated note-taking, sentiment tracking and transcription analysis. Well-known Canadian companies Herschel Supply Company, Unbounce, Fiix, Loopio, VerticalScope and Avanciers currently utilize Dialpad to improve efficiency and productivity. Dialpad also has a myriad of partners in place in Canada, including OMERS Growth Equity, a lead investor in Dialpad’s Series-E funding round, and Clio, a cutting-edge legal technology company.

“As the lead investor in Dialpad’s Series-E funding round, we know how unique and innovative Dialpad’s platform is. We are excited to see the innovations that stem from Dialpad’s increased focus on R&D,” said Mark Shulgan, Managing Director and Head of OMERS Growth Equity. “We are equally thrilled to see Dialpad advancing its ambitious global growth goals by tapping the incredible depth and breadth of Canada’s tech talent – particularly in our home province of Ontario.”
