International phone numbers give your teams a local presence in the countries where you do business, without opening a physical office or setting up a separate phone system in each one.

Where can you get international numbers with Dialpad?

Dialpad offers international numbers in countries across Europe, the Americas, Asia Pacific, and parts of the Middle East and Africa. Availability changes as regulations and carrier coverage change, so the Help Center keeps the current list of countries for local and mobile numbers and toll-free numbers. What types of international numbers are available?

• Local (geographic) numbers use a country's area codes, so they look familiar to callers in that city or region.

• Toll-free numbers let customers in a country call your business at no cost to them.

• Mobile numbers are available in some countries for teams that need a local mobile presence.

How to get an international phone number with Dialpad

Government rules for phone numbers differ from country to country. Depending on where you need numbers, you may need to provide a registered or local address, proof of address, proof of ID, or business registration details, and some countries have minimum order quantities. Lead times also vary by country. Dialpad's Help Center lists the requirements for each country, so you can gather what you need before you request numbers.

To request international toll-free numbers, open a request with Dialpad tech support. If you already have numbers in the UK or another country, you may be able to keep them by porting them to Dialpad, depending on the country.

Once your numbers are set up, you can assign them to team members, offices, departments, and contact centres.

Dialpad-to-Dialpad international calls are free

Calls between Dialpad users are free, including across countries, when you call through the app using HD calls. On the mobile app, you can choose between Carrier and HD call. With Carrier, your mobile provider's usual international rates apply.

That means a salesperson in London and a colleague in New York can talk through a deal at no charge, and teams in different countries can message each other and meet over video in the same app.

How does international calling work with Dialpad?

International calling is available on all Dialpad plans, and Company and Office Admins can choose which team members have access. Dialpad Connect includes unlimited calling within your country, the US, and Canada. "Your country" is based on the country of the Dialpad office you're in, not the caller ID you're using. For the best call quality, use a phone number that matches the location of your Dialpad office and your primary customer base.

Manage international numbers on one platform

International numbers work like any other Dialpad number. Admins can set up and change call routing from their Dialpad account, and team members can add up to five forwarding numbers, including international numbers (forwarded international calls are billed at international rates). Calling, video meetings, and team and SMS messaging all happen in the same desktop and mobile app.

What is an international phone number?

An international phone number is a phone number written so it can be dialled from anywhere in the world. It includes a country calling code, an area or city code where the country uses one, and the subscriber number. For example, a London number written in international format looks like +44 20 7946 0958, where +44 is the country code for the UK and 20 is the area code for London.

For businesses, "international number" also often means a local or toll-free number in another country that customers there can call.

International dialling codes and prefixes

A country calling code tells the phone network which country you're calling. An exit code (also called an international dialling prefix) tells your phone system that you're making an international call. The exit code is 00 from the UK and most European countries, and 011 from the US and Canada. On mobile phones, you can usually type + instead of the exit code.

How to dial an international phone number

1. Dial the exit code. From the UK and most of Europe, dial 00.

2. Enter the country code. For example, 1 for the US or 49 for Germany.

3. Dial the area or city code, if the country uses one. Leave out any leading zero.

4. Enter the local number.

To call a New York number from the UK, you would dial 00 + 1 + 212 + the local number.

How do you write a phone number in international format?

Start with +, then the country code, the area or city code if there is one, and the local number. Leave out the leading zero from the area code. A London number that you'd dial as 020 7946 0958 in the UK is written as +44 20 7946 0958. The format is the same for landlines and mobile numbers, so a UK mobile number starting 07 is written with +44 7 at the start.

Are international phone numbers the same length?

No. Number lengths vary by country, and the full number including the country code can be shorter or longer depending on where you're calling. Check the format for the country you're calling.
