Dialpad Ai Voice vs. RingCentral RingEx Hero

Ooma Office and magicJack for Business are both VoIP-focused business communications solutions that are targeted at small businesses.

Ooma Office integrates with a decent set of solutions like Zoho, Salesforce, and HubSpot.5 magicJack for Business, on the other hand, doesn’t have any integrations.

If you’re looking for a more versatile business communications solution that gives you video conferencing, team messaging, SMS/MMS messaging, and phone calls all in one app and pricing plan, then magicJack doesn’t have the first two features, while Ooma Office can provide all of these features, but at a higher cost.

Interestingly, there are many magicJack and Ooma alternatives that provide all of these communication channels together at the same (or lower) price.

Feature comparison

Now, let’s take a closer look at magicJack vs Ooma when it comes to their features.

1. Call management and routing

If you’re just looking for relatively simple call management features like call forwarding, call transfer, and call waiting, you’ll find them in the core (lowest-priced) offerings for both Ooma Office and magicJack.

However, magicJack charges an extra $10 per month for an auto attendant / virtual receptionist2—which comes included in the base plans for most business communications platforms including Ooma Office and Dialpad Connect.

From a completeness and cost perspective for call management features, Dialpad Connect is comparable to Ooma Office but less expensive at $15 per user per month.

With uptime, Ooma Office doesn’t appear to have any guaranteed uptime, while magicJack guarantees 99.99% uptime.3

2. Unified communications

Both Ooma Office’s base Essentials plan and magicJack offer unlimited domestic calling (which is the standard for business communications platforms) and basic business phone features.

However, magicJack is lacking a bit in terms of other communication channels, such as team messaging and video conferencing. If your business’ only form of communication is phone calls, then magicJack could be a solution for you.

If you also need to have video calls and team messaging, then Ooma Office has those features, though again it’s at a higher price compared to many other competitors. Besides that, the other major noticeable difference with Ooma Office is that it doesn’t have any AI-powered features.

3. AI and analytics

Neither Ooma Office nor magicJack for Business has any significant AI features.

For real-time call transcription and AI-powered call summaries, an option like Dialpad Conect would be better, at a lower price—and it includes video calls and team messaging in the base plan too.

4. Scalability and future-readiness

If you’re planning to scale up in the future, making sure your tech stack works together well is crucial. magicJack has no integrations with other business tools, while Ooma Office does have integrations such as Google Workspace and Microsoft 365—but only starting at the $24.95/mo Pro plan.8

Dialpad Connect has integrations with both Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 at its least expensive Standard plan ($15 per user per month, billed annually).

For CRM integrations, you can get integrations with Salesforce, Zendesk, HubSpot, Zoho, and more with Dialpad’s Pro plan ($25 per user per month, billed annually). Ooma Office has CRM integrations only in its most expensive $29.95 plan.

5. Customer support

magicJack does have decent customer support, with phone support from Monday through Friday 9AM to 6PM ET (excluding major holidays). It also has live chat and email support, and an online help center.

Ooma Office, on the other hand, is more limited with only phone support, though it is 24/7.9

DIalpad Connect offers multilingual web and chat support 24/7 on its Standard plan, and adds phone support as well one tier up on the Pro plan. Dialpad also has an online community forum that customers can access anytime, along with an extensive FAQ hub.

6. Pricing

Both Ooma Office and magicJack for Business’ pricing is surprisingly similar to solutions that have more advanced features, such as Dialpad Connect—and Dialpad Connect's starting price ($15 per user per month) is actually cheaper than Ooma Office’s ($19.99).

magicJack has just the one pricing tier at $15.99 per month, with add-on costs for more features. Ooma Office’s top plan, the Pro Plus, is $29.95 and gives you additional features like call queues, team chat, meeting recordings, and call screening7—features you get included in Dialpad Connect's cheaper base plan.

Not only that, Dialpad Connect starts at $15 when billed annually, and includes a variety of features like:

  • Team and SMS/MMS messaging,

  • Ai-powered call and voicemail transcriptions,

  • Multi-level auto attendant

  • Google Workspace integration

If you’re wondering “is Ooma better than magicJack” from a pricing perspective, then it really depends. If you just want a lower price regardless of value, magicJack is cheaper—but Ooma has more features.
